About Me

What? You expected paragraphs of text with an extended bio and tales of shame and woe?

Christopher Shirk is, by and large, just some guy who started writing as a hobby and way to blow off steam. His introduction to world building came in high school when he started running tabletop roleplaying games for friends. Over time, he was able to develop a handle for what did and didn’t work in developing an environment. This built out over time, as he learned to tell stories–with a great deal of patience from his high school English teacher (shout out to Mrs. Trish Souza…woman had the patience of a saint). Chris continued writing in (some) of his free time, but decided at the time not to publish or share the majority of his work–for some inexplicable reason.

Chris decided to self-publish after years of sporadic work on what would become The Aos Si’s Gift (including three total rewrites, twice experimenting with alternative genre, two plot rewrites, four drafts, and editing the novel down from over 820 pages to just under 600). The decision to self-publish was based on cost-benefit analysis, risk analysis, and an evaluation of the present state of the publishing industry. As a result, he is a part-owner of Risen Fire Creative, LLC, along with his wife.

Chris has undergraduate degrees in Economics and Electrical Engineering. His background includes armed and unarmed private security, test and evaluation of software for aircraft, simulating aircraft-to-board power regulation components, and a smattering of other duties.
